Response to #120: Threesome with Peter Pettigrew.

Remus looked up from his books for what must have been the hundredth time that hour.

"Are you alright, Peter? Feeling ill? Got enough sleep?"

"Yeah, I'm fine, why?"

"You haven't been paying attention. You always pay attention." Peter wasn't exactly a great wizard; he never excelled in class, but he tried his best to keep on top of his subjects and always listened to Remus in their afternoon study.

"I've been thinking..." He shook his head in a 'never mind' gesture.

"Go on, Peter. You know you can tell me anything."

Peter fiddled with the corner of his essay. Remus did his best to look encouraging, not a difficult task for the quiet, thoughtful boy.

Peter took a deep breath, "Sirius asked me... to..erm.. join you two.. If you take my meaning.." Remus dropped his quill, leaving a large ink blot in the middle of the word 'pickled.'

"Did he?" Remus tried to keep the anger out of his voice. Peter nodded, refusing to look him in the eye.

"I.. I thought I should... tell you..."

"Thank you Peter," Remus said stiffly, "I think I need to have a talk with Sirius." Remus pushed his chair away from the table, stood, and carefully gathered his things. Peter glanced as his essay, dismayed.

"We might be able to finish studying in an hour or so, okay?"

"Sure," Peter brightened a bit, still worried about the bigger issue at hand. Remus stormed out of the room almost dropping an essay on dangers of the colour red in Divination.

It didn't take long to find Sirius. He was half asleep in the Seventh year boy's dormitory.

"What exactly were you thinking, Sirius?" Remus threw is books down on the bed as if they were volumes of letters from a cheating lover.

"Pardon?"

"I just talked to Peter. What was the plan? Surprise me in the middle of the night? I can see it now 'Oh, Moonshine, forgot to tell you. Peter is going to pop in for a visit.'"

"Not exactly."

"Then tell me, when did you start making decisions for the both of us?"

"Never. I was going to pass it by you eventually." Remus raised one eyebrow in aggravated question.

"Listen, I feel bad for him. Don't you? I mean, we've got each other, James has Lily. He's the only one left. Did you see him last Hogsmeade weekend?"

"Yes, and I feel bad, but couldn't this be handled... differently?"

"What? Set him up with someone? We've tried that and you know how he is around other people. He's comfortable with us; it would give him a bit of self confidence."

"I have a right to know what's going on before you invite someone to sleep with us."

"So you agree?"

"I didn't say that."

"You were going to."

"Let me think about it, Padfoot."

"If you decide we can't help Peter, I don't know if I'll be able to perform for you." Sirius threatened, twirling a piece of his hair between his fingers. Remus smiled and shook his head.

"You can't go without for more than 12 hours. You know it, I know it, practically everyone knows it."

"I can if I want to."

"Remember that argument we had over what colour Lily's eyes are?"

"And..?"

"And you fell short by 11 hours and 53 minutes. They're quite obviously green, by the way."

"Are not. They're brown I tell you!"

"Yes," Remus pointed out the window, "And that is the moon that shines so bright. Right Petruchio?"

"Who?"

"Never mind, you insist on sleeping through Muggle Studies. What did Peter say about all this?"

"Muggle Studies?"

"You know what I meant, Sirius."

"Oh.. erm.. he thought I was setting him up for a prank at first."

"I'm not surprised."

"He asked what you thought about it."

"What did you tell him?"

"I hadn't asked you yet..."

"Then what?"

"He told me I should talk with you."

"When was this whole conversation?"

"Last week.."

"Oh, I see. Peter was the only one mature enough to at least warn me. You've really got to grow up."

Sirius rolled over on the bed, grinning insolently.

"That's exactly why James is Head Boy, and I'm not."

"I'm sure." Remus moved his books and parchments to rest on the lid of his trunk.

"Are there any more secrets you're keeping from me?"

Sirius shook his head slowly.

"Good. I'm going to lie down and think. You'll be better off if you don't disturb me. I can, in fact, live without sex." Softening the jab with a smile, Remus flopped down on his bed and drew the curtains.

Remus couldn't deny that Peter needed a boost in confidence. It was a running joke between the Marauders that Peter needed a good shag. On the other hand, Sirius had no right to even think of inviting Peter like that.

Remus wasn't bothered by the idea of having other people in bed. He and Sirius had earned a reputation for being rather wild. However, Peter was a close friend. He didn't want Peter to feel alienated after a one night stand, but if Remus refused, he was afraid that Peter would never recover what little self-confidence he had. He sighed.

"Fine Padfoot. I just want you to know that you're crazy... That this is crazy. If we aren't careful we may lose Peter's friendship. I hope you're prepared for that."

"We'll be careful Moony."

"I hope so."

Peter checked his watch again and sighed. Remus had been gone for half an hour and he was itching to know what happened when Sirius had been found. He scribbled nervous doodles on an extra piece of parchment he had been using to check the spelling of complicated words in his essay. He was sure that in some part of the castle two of his friends were having an nasty row. He chided himself for mentioning the idea to Remus; he shouldn't have said anything. Sirius would have forgotten eventually; he probably already had.

If Remus hadn't been informed, Sirius had probably just meant it as a joke. After all, he, Peter, wasn't the kind of person the pair usually brought to their dorm. That Ravenclaw, Paul, last week. Andrew and Brendan from Hufflepuff three days before the last full moon. All tall, dark haired, and handsome. Peter was none of those things. He wasn't even good for pillow talk.

Peter didnīt know exactly what went on in the dorm when other boys visited. He traded his bed for the common room couch whenever Remus and Sirius brought a third. However, he did know that the intruders were not dismissed in the middle of the night. Sirius and Remus almost always escorted them to breakfast the next day; if they slept through the meal they would walk their new friend to his first class, even if that meant they would be late for their own.

Peter shook his head and scratched out a rather phallic looking sketch, meant to be a small faerie ring. He looked up as someone sat across from him.

"Hi, you're one of Remus' friends, right?"

"Yeah..."

"Will you give this to him then?" The boy gave Peter a rather long letter addressed to 'R.L.' "I haven't been able to find him anywhere."

"Sure"

"Thanks, Tommy."

Peter sighed, "Uh huh." The boy smiled and excused himself. Peter was tempted to peek at the note but he was afraid of being caught when Remus came back. He didnīt have to resist temptation long, as Remus soon stumbled back into the library with a pile of books and a shoulder bag full of essays, quills and ink.

"Here, Andrew wanted me to give you this."

Remus tucked the parchment in to his pocket.

"Thanks," he said distractedly. "A bit juvenile of him, isn't it? Passing notes through friends? He was the one from Slytherin?"

"Hufflepuff. Sixth year, I think."

"Oh, right." There was a slight pause. Neither wanted to bring up the events of the past hour. Remus opened his mouth to speak, but Peter broke the silence, asking, "I don't understand this bit about frog's toes."

Remus was surprised but grateful for the switch to more familiar, academic conversation.

"When dried and crushed, they can be used to protect inanimate objects, such as wands and clothing, against fire," Remus explained, lapsing into a scholarly tone, "In the 1700's they were used in protective potions for some if the witches that were to be burned at the stake. However, they're useless for protecting living things, the active ingredient for that was salamander skin. That help?"

"Yeah, thanks."

"You know, most Muggles refuse to believe salamanders live in fire. They used to, once, but not anymore."

"Oh..."

"Yeah, useless facts," Remus said with a shrug.

"No, I might need to know that someday."

"Maybe."

Another awkward pause. Scrambling for something to say, Peter settled for, "Is there any homework for Care of Magical Creatures?"

"Not this week."

"Then I just have to write another inch or two for Potions and a scroll for Muggle Studies... I'll just finish in the common room later." Without looking at his friend, Peter started to pile up his books and stack his parchment, ink, and quill on top.

"Wormtail..."

"Should we go find James? He's probably out on the Quiddich Pitch," Peter frowned, "Unless he's hidden away somewhere with Lily."

"Peter, listen."

"Hmm? I have been... I'm going to go put my things away, then we can raid the kitchen before dinner. Or w-"

"Stop, I have to talk to you."

Peter winced. "No, it's all right, I know... He didn't mean it, probably didn't even know what you were talking about eh? I shouldn't have mentioned it."

Remus stood, half aggravated, half amused.

"If you would stop interrupting me-"

"You know, I'm kind of tired. Maybe I should go take a nap." As Peter said this he picked up his things and started toward the door. Remus quickly caught Peter's shoulder, spun him around, and lead him back to the table the had been using.

Remus leaned close to his friend and, in a hushed voice, asked "Peter, would you like to spend the night with us?"

Peter's eyes widened, "Excuse me?"

"Sirius and I decided that if you want to..."

"Really? I mean... yeah, sure... if it's alright with you, I may as well, right?" Peterīs expression shifted quickly from excitement to worry.

"Have you ever...?"

Peter shifted his weight to one side. "No..," he admitted, although he didnīt expect Remus to be surprised.

"I could teach you some things beforehand, if youīd like,Ļ Remus offered.

Peter thought for a moment then nodded slowly.

"We can start after we put all this away." Remus motioned to their things. Peter nodded again. Remus smiled gently, "If you don't want to do this I'm not going to force you." Peter's expression turned very serious.

"No, I want to."

Remus kept his soft smile and nodded once.

"Come on then." He took a few of the books from Peter's overburdened arms, and the two left for the Gryffindor Dorm.

Sirius was sitting in the common room when they entered.

"So, what's going on?" Peter's eyes widened and Remus grinned at his lover.

"We'll talk upstairs, hmm?"

"Sure." Sirius pulled a sugar quill from his pocket and stuck it in his mouth as he rose, preceding the others to the seventh-year dorm. He sat on Remus's bed, legs dangling over the edge and sucked more intently on the quill. Peter watched him with raised eyebrows and deposited his schoolwork on the trunk at the foot of his bed. Remus set his burden on the floor; it could be sorted out later.

"Peter has decided he wants to try it. We're going to practice a bit first though."

"Anything I can do?"

Remus glanced at Peter, who, after a moment's thought, nodded.

"But first why don't you bring us some dinner? We can eat up here." Remus grinned. Peter let out a nervous laugh as Sirius exited with Remus's extra school bag and a comically exaggerated huff.

"We'll try kissing first, alright?"

Peter blinked.

"I.. uh.. I've.."

"It's ok, I know. I'll teach you how."

Peter nodded, he had seen plenty of couples snogging in hallways, but he'd never had the chance to try it himself. Remus lead Peter to the nearest bed and told him to sit down. Peter's heart pounded as he obeyed and Remus knelt beside him on the bed.

"If you want to stop just tell me."

After a short pause Remus leaned closer to kiss his friend. Peter's mind raced, he remembered how Sirius and Remus kissed in Hogsmeade behind that shop, when they thought no one was looking. It didn't look like any kiss he had seen before. It was frantic and rather sloppy. Peter opened his mouth to try to imitate that kiss. Remus pulled back, a slight smile playing on his lips.

"Calm down and follow my lead." Peter nodded and closed his eyes, hoping that would help him to relax. He jumped when their lips made contact again. They eventually moved on to open-mouthed kissing, it wasn't as frantic as the one in Hogsmeade, but Peter was sure it was just as sloppy. He was embarrassed, but Remus didnīt complain; he was probably used to it, kissing Sirius all the time.

Peter didn't notice that Sirius had returned until a pair of arms wrapped around him and held him against a warm chest. Remus broke the kiss gently.

"He's almost a natural, Sirius."

"Really? I'm surprised, Peter. He usually complains about my technique. Well, that technique anyway..."

Remus rolled his eyes.

"What did you bring us?"

Sirius reached over the edge of the bed where he had left Remus's bag and pulled it up by the strap.

"Lamb, cranberry sauce, and chocolate pudding," he explained as he pulled three packages from the bag. They ate in silence. Remus and Sirius didn't need to speak to understand each other. Peter was too nervous to form words.

"Peter, we can wait for another night if you'd like," Remus offered.

Peter shook his head, if he quit now his heart, and the rest of his body, would never forgive him. Remus smiled, clearing away the remnants of dinner to the nightstand. Sirius reached around to undo the clasp of Peter's robes. Remus leaned in to kiss Peter, his hands busy loosening Peter's necktie.

James watched his three best friends arriving at breakfast the next morning. He wondered why they were all grinning like that, why they were walking so closely, and, most importantly, why Lily had dropped her fork so suddenly.

"What's wrong?"

Lily didn't answer. James glared at his friends as they sat across from him.

"What have you done to Lily?"

"What are you on about?" Sirius asked.

"Look at her, she's gone pale! You must have done something," James replied, shaking a finger at his friends. "Red, speak to me, are you alright?"

Lily whispered into James' left ear. As she spoke, realization dawned on James's face.

"You didn't.... With PETER? You two have reached a new low."

"Don't worry, Prongs. You're next." Sirius winked.
